Today a friend of mine became an United States of America Citizen!

Today a friend of mine became a United States of America Citizen. He's been through a lot and like me he lost his Mother who passed away this year.

So many emotions flood to his mind at this time, relief and some anger at those who threatened him with deportation and discrimination. But he survived all of that and more.

Immigrants are the life of our democracy bringing in those who strive for a better life and this young man is a hard working activist who supports his human rights work with service industry work as well. We can be proud of our nation which accepts the best from around the world and gives them a chance to make our nation a better place.

As we reflect on who we are, remember we are descended from immigrants. We are are all from somewhere else, excepting the Native Americans, who have their own struggles and one is to be named Secretary of the Interior, another milestone in the justice issues of our nation. So as we consider the future administration coming into office, let us see already it has gotten better for some and there is so much promise for the future.
